The Anaheim Art Association is hosting its 62nd Annual Open Juried Art Competition, to be exhibited in the Main Gallery of the MuzeO.
Fine Art Juror Joe Oakes
Joe A. Oakes is a distinguished landscape artist whose vibrant interpretations of the American West captivate with a unique blend of traditional and contemporary elements. He harnesses the region's beauty, transforming works into vivid compositions, evoking the timeless spirit of the land. His signature style, characterized by bold hues of orange and deep violet shadows, reflects his connection to nature.
Oakes was a curious and observant child that embarked on his artistic journey at a young age, drawing inspiration from the natural world. Despite holding a BFA in graphic design, he is largely self-taught in the medium of painting. His dedication to perfecting his craft is evident in his masterful use of acrylics and his reliance on dry brush techniques, giving his work a unique texture and illusion of blending. He has garnered recognition for his ability to translate the beauty of the Southwest into compelling visual narratives. His accolades include, finalist in the prestigious "AcrylicWorks - The Best of Acrylics" competitions and securing top honors in various juried exhibitions. His work has been exhibited in venues like the Albuquerque Museum and the High Desert Museum, reinforcing his status as a prominent figure in contemporary landscape painting.
As he continues to evolve as an artist, Joe A. Oakes aspires to broaden the reach of his work and gain further acknowledgment for his unconventional approach to depicting Western landscapes. His lifelong commitment to art is driven by a desire to share his reverence for nature with a wider audience.
