“Artist-parent and child relationship; children as studio-mates and collaborators; artist-led alternative pedagogies; collective and community-centred art-making practice”
Residency for artist-parents exploring collaborative studio practice with children. MOTHRA integrates children as contributors rather than separating them from art-making. Two autumn 2026 sessions (Sept 21–28 and Nov 16–23) set in the context of contemporary art dialogue and collective, community-centred practice. Residents engage with histories of practice and discuss their own work in relation to contemporary art and related fields. Priority given to applicants with undergraduate or graduate art education.

Housing
Various room configurations at residency venue. Two portables available for larger families; one room with two double beds; most rooms have one double bed with option for cot. Most bedrooms do not have private toilet/sink and are best suited for adult/child co-sleeping.
Requirements
5 images of work, latest resume/CV, description of art practice, description of family formation (number and ages of accompanying family members), statement on whether art practice allows child to witness/collaborate, background in undergraduate/postgraduate art education (priority given to those with art education)
Open to artist-parents (those who identify as parent, mother, father, or carer). Children must accompany the artist for the full duration of the residency. Priority given to applicants with undergraduate or graduate art education. All are welcome to apply. September session waitlist is in effect.
