Creating tactile art for accessible & inclusive exhibits. Please touch my art
Lynda Todd is a Peterborough, Ontario based tactile mixed media artist creating richly textured works inspired by Canada's species at risk. A legally blind artist, she expands the language of painting through touch and accessible exhibitions. Her work has been exhibited across Ontario, featured in the 2026 Costco Connection and Grapevine Arts & Culture magazine, and recognized with several awards, including the 2025 Outstanding Emerging Artist Award.
Born 1967 in Millbrook, ON, Canada
My tactile mixed media practice explores the relationship between people, wildlife, and the natural world through richly textured paintings designed to be experienced through both sight and touch. Drawing inspiration from Canada's species at risk, I combine acrylic paint, textured mediums, handmade papers, natural fibres, resin, and sculptural elements to create immersive surfaces that invite audiences to connect with each work in a more physical and meaningful way. By expanding the language of painting through touch, I challenge traditional assumptions about how art is experienced while encouraging deeper engagement with the environment. As a legally blind and colour-blind artist, my disability shapes my artistic methodology rather than defining my work. Touch is central to my creative process, guiding decisions about composition, texture, and form. Accessibility is integrated into every exhibition through tactile experiences, Braille and large print materials, and audio descriptions, allowing blind, low vision, and sighted audiences to experience the work together. My goal is to create art that inspires curiosity, conversation, and greater awareness of the fragile connections between people and the species that share our world.
