St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral is an Antiochian Orthodox Christian cathedral in Los Angeles, California. Its parish grew from Arab-American Orthodox families who settled in the area from the turn of the twentieth century, and their first church, St. George Orthodox Church, opened in 1924. The present church building was completed in 1950, and St. Nicholas was declared the Cathedral of the Western Region in 1964. The Cathedral holds regular worship services, adult study classes in subjects such as New Testament Greek and liturgical Arabic, and a Church School. It also runs Camp St. Nicholas, a youth summer camp in the Los Padres National Forest that opened in 1964, a choir, and a senior housing project next to the church. Its hall serves as a social, educational and cultural center for the Orthodox community, hosting events such as the Sweetheart Ball, a sports banquet and a festival.
