“Art and Shamanism: masks, shamanic costume, transformation, identity, sacred nature, animal spirits”
Week-long artistic residency (July 31–August 8, 2026) in the Susa Valley, Piedmont, exploring the relationship between shamanism and artistic creation, with focus on masks and shamanic costumes. Open to artists of any discipline—dance, painting, photography, sculpture, drawing, installation—including non-professionals. Participants create their own shamanic mask and costume, guided by artist/anthropologist Lorenzo Bordonaro and artist/shamanism teacher Morena Luciani Russo. Program alternates between theoretical study of shamanic cultures and European masked traditions and experiential shamanic practices at sacred natural sites in the valley. Includes site visits, group sharing sessions, a shamanic fire ceremony, and a collective performance. Residency cost is €560 plus €20 membership fee, excluding accommodation and meals. Max 15 participants. A required preliminary online meeting (~1.5 hours) precedes the residency. Working languages: Italian and English.
