Residency is a tailor-made hybrid art residency, a virtual and in-person experience. Our team at Belgrade AIR offer conceptual and curatorial guidance, ensuring that you receive valuable feedback and follow-up on your work and instead of in-person community spaces, we are offering support through weekly 2 hours each, virtual meetings via Zoom where artists can connect with an international community and get feedback on their projects from our curators and other artists. This allows for ongoing networking, collaboration, and artistic exchange.
You will have a private apartment which is a living and working space, virtual program support with curatorial guidance, introductions to international artists, social media visibility, and dedicated support from the BAIR team. Your artistic profile will also be featured on our website and social media.
Duration of residency
Usually artists stay one month, but if you want to stay longer or shorter, please contact us
Accommodation
Accommodation is a separate small apartment as you will see in the pictures, and it is in a new building in a residential area, close to the center of the city. The artist lives and works in the accommodation and there is no separate studio or gallery space available.
Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
We welcome artists from various disciplines to participate in our program. We encourage you to apply whether you work in painting, sculpture, photography, performance, or any other artistic medium. Our team is available to offer conceptual and curatorial guidance virtually throughout the residency. As part of the residency, we offer a range of benefits, including curatorial follow-up, introductions to international artists community through online meetings once a week over zoom, and visibility through our social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram), support from the BAIR team, and the opportunity to have your artist profile featured on our website.
Studio / Workspace
The artist lives and works in the accommodation and there is no separate studio or gallery space available.
Fees and support
We are an artist-run and self-supported artist in residence and we don't have any grants for now. The artist is paying all fees for the program and his living expenses. We encourage artists to apply for a grant, to cover their stay more easily. We can send you an invitation letter for that purpose. Please email for more information at belgradeair@gmail.com
Expectations towards the artist
BAIR is a self-directed environment where you dictate the direction of your artistic journey and we are here to assist and support you virtually. Please communicate any specific needs or project requirements to us in advance. The artist doesn't have to produce or finish the work during the residency, it can be only a research project. We invite you to approach this experience with an open mind, ready to share ideas, give and receive constructive feedback, and explore new artistic possibilities together.
Application information
To apply, please send us your portfolio with short CV and social handles to email belgradeair@gmail.com with short letter of what are you planing to do during your stay. Once your application is reviewed and accepted, we will provide further details about the program and guide you through the next steps. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Belgrade, Serbia · Est. 2012
Hosted by Center424, an artist-run non-profit at the heart of Belgrade's independent art scene.
Since 2012, BAIR has offered artists from around the world a self-directed, tailor-made residency — one that adapts to how artists actually work today. Our model is hybrid: a physical base in Belgrade, extended by an active virtual community that keeps the conversation alive long after the residency ends.
That virtual community is Virtual Studio Groups (VSG) — a curated international network of approximately sixty artists meeting weekly via Zoom. VSG is not an add-on; it is built into the fabric of your residency. Through VSG, residents enter a living ecosystem of artistic exchange, receiving ongoing feedback from peers and curators across time zones, disciplines, and cultural contexts.
Three Pillars
- In-person residency in Belgrade — city immersion, curatorial support, and on-ground community
- Virtual Studio Groups (VSG) — weekly two-hour sessions with curated international artists; feedback, collaboration, and continuity regardless of where you are
- Exchange with The Local AIR, Valencia — an ongoing partnership providing reciprocal opportunities for artists between Belgrade and Valencia, Spain
BAIR is self-directed: you define the questions, we help you pursue them. Our curatorial team offers conceptual guidance, project feedback, and support throughout your stay.

BAIR is an artist-run, self-supported program. We do not currently have institutional grants. Artists cover program fees and living costs, and we can help support grant applications — providing invitation letters once residency dates are confirmed.
