Residency · Izumi, Osaka, Japan · 1 program
Artists from other disciplines are also welcome, particularly those interested in material exploration, traditional craftsmanship, cultural exchange, or the relationship between art and everyday life. Previous experience working with tatami is not required.
The residency encourages experimentation with tatami as a material, object, and cultural concept. Artists are welcome to explore its physical properties, traditional uses, and potential reinterpretations through their own practices.
The studio is located within the same facility as the guesthouse and also functions as a small gallery.
Studio use is shared and may vary depending on events and other activities. The adjacent tatami workshop is an active production space that artists may observe during working hours.
Artists staying for one month or longer are welcome to use the gallery space to organize and present their own solo exhibition, subject to prior arrangement and space availability. Artists are responsible for planning, installing, and managing their exhibitions.
TartAMI is happy to support exhibition promotion and other aspects of the presentation where possible, although the extent of support may vary depending on available resources. Artists should be prepared to take the lead in organizing and promoting their exhibitions.
Artists planning projects that require specialized equipment, large installations, or extended access to the studio are encouraged to discuss their needs in advance.
