Sign upAs I work, I embrace the unpredictable nature of clay, allowing it to guide me, and inform the positioning of my sculptures. I strive to push the clay to its limits by having every piece be constructed hollow from the outset. This method of hollow sculpting allows me greater ability to stretch the shapes and poses that embody these animals' weight. It is my ambition to create sculptures that possess an organic tactility. As I can viscerally imagine the textures and fluidity of these sea animals poses. I interpret the immense color variations of these animals through methods of glaze layering, combinations, and alternative firing methods. This focus on sea creatures has heavily influenced the functional work that I create. With the addition of sculptural elements to the exterior of larger forms, my intent is to enhance the wheel thrown form of the functional work. This collection of work is exaggerated by additional carving methods that is heavily utilized in my sculptures.
