Yared Olivelli is an Ethiopian visual artist and lecturer in Graphic Art based in Addis Ababa. His artistic practice explores the emotional and psychological aspects of belonging. He creates paintings with fluid compositions that blend abstraction and suggestion, allowing figures, landscapes, and memories to come together to form intimate, shifting environments. He is deeply interested in the capacity of images to convey profound feeling without the need for explanation. His creative process is remarkably intuitive and fluid; rather than following rigid rules, it simply flows. This allows elements to naturally take shape, dissolve, and then reappear in his work.
Born in ደሴ / Dessie, Ethiopia
As both an artist and educator, Yared is committed to fostering dialogue through contemporary art while mentoring the next generation of Ethiopian artists.
