Artist Statement

I am a contemporary artist working across painting, drawing, and printmaking. My practice is rooted in an intuitive response to emotion, using the act of making as a way to process and translate internal states into visual form. I move fluidly between abstraction and figuration, exploring the tension between control and spontaneity. My understanding of anatomy allows me to construct recognisable forms, which I often simplify, fragment, or distort to reflect the instability of perception and feeling. Recurring motifs such as the eye and organic structures function as points of focus in my work, symbolising awareness, sensitivity, and the act of looking—both inward and outward. Alongside these, I develop more rhythmic, pattern-based compositions, where repetition and variation mirror emotional intensity. I work with a wide range of materials, including oil, ink, fineliner, marker, and graphite. My approach is deliberately open and process-driven, allowing each medium to shape a different quality of expression—from precise, controlled linework to more instinctive, gestural marks. Alongside my personal practice, I create commissioned works, often focusing on animals and living subjects, where I balance observation with my interpretive, emotionally driven approach. My work exists in the space between the seen and the felt, inviting the viewer into a nuanced, introspective experience shaped by both immediacy and reflection.
