Nancy Lambrechts

Artist Statement

Nancy Lambrechts is a self-taught, local artist. She currently resides in Stellenbosch, South Africa but has also lived in the UK and Rwanda. She usually paints what surrounds her, what she’s likely to connect with in daily life, what’s up close, observable and familiar. Whether that’s the people she knows or the landscapes and environments she finds herself in. Nancy travels with a pencil and sketchpad in hand, taking in the moment, sketching and making notes of the unique passage of time, the lighting, the mood, the season. She strives to paint landscapes that evoke recognition, memories and emotional resonance. Where one can say, I’ve walked that path, I know this place, I’ve seen those mountains. Nancy paints with both oils and acrylics, her style is impressionistic, with a bold use of colour and mark-making.
