“Indigenous Futurism”
Screenwriting residency for Indigenous artists exploring futurism themes for film and television adaptations. Participants adapt novels, short stories, or plays into screen works through faculty-led workshops, one-on-one feedback with Roxann Whitebean and guest faculty, peer collaboration, and 24/7 private studio access at Banff Centre. Hybrid format: online preparatory week (Feb 1–5) with script reviews and Zoom sessions, followed by three in-person weeks on campus with workshops, elder/knowledge keeper gatherings, land engagement, and a public open house on Feb 24 with screenings, table reads, and artist talks.

Additional Requirements
Two-page resume or CV; one-page cover letter explaining interest and goals; one-page project proposal describing theme and relevance; portfolio including 1-2 page story outline and 10-20 page script excerpt. Group applications submit all resumes in one document and one SlideRoom application. Financial Aid section must be completed for scholarship consideration.
Note
Must identify as Indigenous. Must have written at least one script previously or have educational background in film/screenwriting. Must be adapting a novel, short story, or play into a television series, feature film, or episodic work for screen. Must be available for the entire program duration. International applicants must obtain a Visitor Visa (not a Student Visa) to enter Canada.

Participants are chosen by an adjudication panel comprising internal and external assessors. Programs are highly competitive with a limited number of places. Applicants are notified of selection status after adjudication; individual feedback is not provided.
