Call for Applications – Banff International Curatorial Institute: Curating While Black
About This Opportunity
Curating While Black is a hybrid residency and embedded symposia for Black curators with demonstrated professional experience in visual arts, material culture, performance, film and video, and public programming. The program supports individual curatorial research projects alongside group dialogue, including one-on-one feedback on curatorial research, faculty talks, peer gatherings, independent writing studios, and cross-program connections with artists in concurrent residencies on campus. Co-led by faculty Sally Frater, Michelle Jacques, and Crystal Mowry through the Banff International Curatorial Institute (BICI) at Walter Phillips Gallery. The program begins with one week online followed by two weeks in person at Banff Centre.

Note
Open to Black curators (18+) of all backgrounds, gender identities and expressions, with demonstrated professional experience in visual arts, material culture, performance, film and video, or public programming. Applicants may have institutional affiliations or independent curatorial practices. Collaborative groups of no more than two are welcome.
Compensation & Benefits
Overview
Scholarships available: Standard covers 100% of tuition fees and up to 25% of meal plan and accommodation costs. Canadian Indigenous scholarship covers 100% of tuition fees, meals, and accommodation.
