About This Opportunity

Mycology — mushrooms and fungi; ecology, foraging, studio and lab techniques

Mycophilia is an online research residency and mycology course for artists to learn about mushrooms and fungi. The program offers daily live video lectures with international mycological researchers on topics including mycodiversity, symbiosis (fungi-plant partnerships, fungal farming insects), mushroom medicine and poison, Cordyceps and zombie fungi, coprophilous fungi, ergotism, and more—featuring collaborating institutions such as the Mycological Society of Toronto, Kew Gardens, Cornell University, the New York Mycological Society, and Agriculture Canada. Running September 14–25, 2026 on Zoom, the 2–2.5 hours of daily programming includes artist talks, discussions, recommended assignments, show and tell, and a tethered mushroom hunting field trip via Zoom. Designed for visual and conceptual artists but open to writers, musicians, film makers, and dancers, the program facilitates research that enriches artistic practice within a small jury-selected cohort of 7–10 international artists.
